Some Questions For You!

Where were you when they took down the Confederate Battle Flag from the capitol dome in South Carolina, changed the Georgia '56 flag, and changed the name of your street named after a Revolutionary War hero or Confederate general just because some complained or was "offended'? Were you at home surfing the internet?

Where were you when they changed the rebel mascot at your school, the name of your school, suspended your child for wearing a Confederate T-shirt, and took prayer out of your school? Were you out hunting or fishing?

Where were you when they banned the singing and playing of Dixie, took Christ out of Christmas, and took down the Ten Commandments? Were you home playing computer games?

Where were you when an estimated 30 million illegal aliens including terrorists, gangs, sex offenders, and other criminals came into OUR country and took over many of our cities, towns, and neighborhoods with another 100 million expected by 2050? Were you out cheering on your favorite sports team?

Do you believe what the "liberal news media" tells you? Have you seen 'Gods and Generals' or 'America: Freedom to Fascism'? Do you watch Glen Beck, Lou Dobbs, and Bill O'Riley or Survivor, Dancing with the Stars, and American Idol?

What do you know about the NAFTA Super Highway, the North American Union, the Patriot Act, and Eminent Domain? Do you know what they are doing to our country? Are you too busy to care?

Have you ever read 'The South Was Right', 'Why Not Freedom', 'Proclaiming Liberty', or 'The Death of the West'? Or do you sit at home and read some romantic or fantasy novel?

What are you going to do when your job is out sized to a foreign country, or 20 illegal aliens move into the house next door, or you go into the store and no one there speaks English, or drug gangs break into your house, rape your wife, molest your children, and steal every thing that you've worked hard for. It happens every day and will only get worse.

What are you going to do when the government shuts down your bank, there is no more gas for your vehicle, all the food is contaminated, this country goes bankrupt, and terrorists set off dirty bombs in all the major cities of this country? Do you really think that this all can't happen? Think again! What are you going to do?

A friend of mine recently told me that he thought he would live to see the break up of this country. Terrorists want to blow it up. Illegal aliens are over running it. Ignoring all of the problems are not going to make them go away. If you think our government and "current crop" of politicians are going to solve the problems, you're living in a fantasy world! What are you going to do?

Our Founding Fathers formed and through their blood, sweat, and tears made this country. They fought and died in all the wars to make it FREE. They would "turn over in their graves" if they could see what this country has become and where it's headed. We The People are this country. Not the politicians, special interest groups, or the corporate elites.

There are an estimated 70 million decedents of Confederate veterans in this country. Some are aware of their ancestors, but many are not. Many seem to be ashamed of their Southern/ Confederate Heritage and History and have "surrendered" their beliefs to the liberal/ socialists power of political correctness, diversity, and multiculturalism.

Its time for us in the Southern Heritage movement and all other Patriotic Americans, rich and poor, black and white, to stand up, just as our ancestors have done in the past. We need to organize, educate, recruit, and unite to save our Southland and this country. The upcoming 2008 elections may be our last opportunity to take back our country. Voting for the "lesser of two evils" is no longer an option. All the do nothing and corrupt politicians must be voted out of office. Terrorists and criminals must be arrested and incarcerated. Illegal aliens must be rounded up and deported. What are you going to do?

America is at a crossroads. The time is NOW, not next week or next year. If we don't fight there will be no country left as we know it and there may be no country period! You can do something and save it, or you can do nothing and lose it. It's your choice! You have the power, use it! What are you going to do?

A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR SOUTHERN HEARTS

Southern Ladies and Gentlemen,

As commander of the Lee-Moses-Dixon Vindicator Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans of Mobile, Alabama, in co-operation with the Maury Camp of Grand Bay, Alabama, I am honored to be allowed to announce the presentation of our Christmas Gift which we hope will bring cheer to Southern Hearts, both living and passed over the river.

On I-10, just west of Mobile, Alabama, an eighty foot flagpole built to withstand hurricanes sits. Below it stand two light poles carrying 2,000 watt halogen lights. If the pole did fall, it would land on a family cemetary containing the graves of two Confederate soldiers. This site has a traffic count estimated at over 2 million, 160 thousand people a month. It will be visible for over a mile in both directions.

Currently atop this pole sits a 3 inch by 5 inch flag similar to one carried by the greatest army that ever walked the North American continent. It was the army of a Christian Nation. Next week we will replace it with a 12 foot by 18 foot Confederate Flag. It is dedicated to every Southerner who ever fought for his country, especially those fighting now and those who bled in 1861-1865. If you'd like to make a donation, it will go towards our ultimate goal of flying a 20 by 30 flag similar to the SCV's Montgomery flag.

This project is a monument to truth. A truth that as President Jefferson Davis said; "if crushed to the earth will rise again." We salute you President Davis, in the 200th anniversary of your birth! It is a monument to the courage and honor of the Southern soldier. The pole is a reminder that in a free country, the speech, heritage and culture of all deserves equal protection. It will stand as testimony to the fact that millions of Southern Americans remain proud of their ancestors, who as R.E. Lee said, fought invaders to keep the constitution and the country that was inherited by them from their fathers.

This project is a reminder to cultural bigots who deserve no individual recognition here, that their efforts to dimish, disparage, and otherwise erase our heritage will only fuel a fire in Southern Hearts. This fire will result in more of these projects, some of which are already in the works.

And finally, this project is given to the Southern people as a challenge. We challenge every camp in the SCV to erect a similar pole, and will be happy to give details of how this can be done for surprisingly small expenditures.

We will officially dedicate the flag on General Robert E. Lee's 201th birthday, Saturday, January 19, 2008.

RON PAUL AND JEFFERSONIAN REPUBLICANISM

Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul has gotten some attention (not nearly what's deserved) for the astonishing fundraising on his behalf by those who have been roused by his message.

Normally, (we're confident Dr. Paul would agree), such fundraising is merely a reflection of such sums' corrupting ability to buy power and favor from the Leviathan the US government has become. We believe Paul's fundraising is different.

Perhaps Pastor Chuck Baldwin has said it best - "So, who are these "kooks" who are sending Ron Paul so much money? And just why are they sending him so much money? I will tell you who they are, because I am one of them. They are rank-and-file, tax-paying citizens who are sick and tired of out-of-control federal spending and deficits. They have had it with an arrogant federal government that runs roughshod over both the Constitution and the liberties of the American people. They are people who have had enough of the IRS, the BATF and a thousand other federal agencies that have "erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance." (As Thomas Jefferson put it in the Declaration of Independence).

And Professor Larry Sabato, director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, said that Ron Paul will remain an influential figure in the 2008 race even if he is not nominated. …."He has intense support among a segment of the population. They are doing something that people are ordinarily loath to do, which is part with their own money." Sabato has stated he believes that the Ron Paul Revolution is far larger ("millions") than anybody else in the mainstream media has admitted.

But just what is the Ron Paul Revolution? Baldwin's reference to Jefferson and the Declaration gives us our clue. We believe it is no less than a resurgent Jeffersonianism (as opposed to the Hamiltonian tack this country took 142 years ago), first made triumphant at the point of the bayonets of blue clad interventionists bound and determined to free the Constitution from the chains Jefferson always recommended.

Nearly all of Ron Paul's criticisms of our current situation are of those things put in place in the intervening years to seal that Hamiltonian victory. In those intervening years of course, anything associated with that Old Republic of Jefferson is now branded as backward, un-progressive etc. -"kooky" in short, and worst of all "racist."

And of course, given that such charge has been the operative smear to keep in check the Jeffersonian nature of the true American character, Ron Paul is about to run into that age old and effective buzz saw - so when it begins (and it's already started in some quarters) from some who ask about neo- Confederates and neo-Secessionists (that would be us) being among his supporters, don't be astonished. Such an attack on Paul is as predictable as Spring rains and the blooming of Honeysuckle in May.

Behind the façade of that shielding smear, the edifice of tyranny has been constructed brick by utopian brick. This has been accomplished through the efforts of people who believe that humans can be saved and made socially perfect through the legislative and executive authority sanctioned by the votes of merely five judges in the judicial branch of a consolidated national power and by the presence of armed men when many of those humans turn down that sort of salvation by such means.

The League of the South has been warning of all this for some time, hence our call for the South (the true and constant foundation of Jefferson's legacy however much we've been debased by all the intervening falsehoods) to prepare itself for a renewed attempt at separating ourselves from this madness. But some folks still believe the system can be fixed. In their eyes, hope for reform appears in the form of Ron Paul.

Perhaps the true American Jeffersonian character is resurfacing as it did in 1800 with Jefferson's election and in response to the same stimulus - the exercise of arrogant power in the name of freedom. Perhaps. But if Paul's Jeffersonian warnings go unheeded - the acceleration of the collapse of the Behemoth that has now lived for over a century will only be hastened. Hang on! It's going to be an interesting and portentous ride.

An Open Letter to Neo-Confederates On Behalf of Ron Paul

Dear Neo-Confederates:

Ok, "Neo-Confederates" is a nasty little name. But we all know that term of derision is used when referring to a certain sort of person, of which I am one. It includes anyone who particularly does not hate the South and who thinks things would have been better off if the Northern empire had not invaded.

In Clyde Wilson's latest book, Defending Dixie, which I copy edited and published, he acknowledges in an essay entitled "Confessions of a Neo-Confederate" that his "title is a little tricky. I do not consider myself a 'Neo-Confederate,' though I have been labeled as such, with malice aforethought, by self-appointed snarling watchdogs of orthodoxy."

He goes on to say that he does not dwell in the past, even though he is proud of the South's struggle for independence in the 1860s. He even says that he is not in favor of reinstating the Confederate government. What he wants is for the South's "unique and admirable culture to flourish and decide its own future. This is a happy and positive mission in tune with a changing world."

For most of us in the South, the current season of presidential campaigns has been anything but happy and positive, and most of you are probably still undecided about who to vote for in the primary election. News flash: One of us is running!

Although originally from Pittsburgh, Ron Paul moved to rural Texas in 1968 and has been an honorary member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans for at least 12 years. If you want to know why, just check out what the James Morgan Utz Camp number 1815 of the Missouri Division has up on their website.

He has given countless speeches in front of Confederate flags for Southern Heritage groups and has never faltered from his defense of Dixie. Or, for that matter, our critique of Secretariat-General Lincoln.

He is the brainchild of the Austrian economists at the Mises Institute , which is home to the world's biggest and best anti-Lincoln website , and our own Tom DiLorenzo, author of The Real Lincoln. You can be sure that Ron Paul has read every word of DiLorenzo's books (see his new Lincoln Unmasked, and, as a scholar himself, a whole lot more. A few others that you should read are Tom Woods's new books, 33 Questions About American History You're Not Supposed to Ask and The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History.

Sure, the puke machines in the national press are ignoring and downplaying Ron Paul. However, one of the biggest surprises in this year's election is the overwhelming dominance of Ron Paul supporters on the internet.

One reason the media ignores him is that the giant corporate polling monstrosities have become dinosaurs. They haven't figured out that over the last eight years a large portion of Republican primary voters have quit using home telephones. We all have caller ID and do not answer their market research solicitation calls. We use cell phones, which also have caller ID.

In any case, all of these giant polling companies are in for a rude surprise in the New Year. They've always been propaganda machines, and they may find that they're not as influential as they used to be. Young and energetic conservatives are going to vote en masse for Ron Paul. And, suddenly, us Southern Heritage people are getting on board.

Mitt Romney had been pretending to run the furthest to the right of the frontrunners. But last week, he couldn't keep shoving his foot deeper into his own mouth. Check out what he said in the CNN YouTube debate about the Confederate flag.

Fred Thompson wasn't much better. Just call him 'Mumbling Fred'. You can tell he was nervous and trying to straddle the fence.

Of course, McCain was asked the same question in the debate in Columbia, South Carolina, on May 15. He tried to straddle the fence, too. He said he hated everything the Confederate flag represents -- racism, bigotry, hatred, all the generic leftwing answers. The crowd was silent. Then he said he supported the compromise -- keeping the flag where it is now, by monuments, but not in positions of authority, such as atop state capitols.

The Fox News black moderator reiterated his question, which came across more like an accusation of racism. McCain stood by his position and told him to "move on", which was followed by the loudest and most enthusiastic applause of the night.

Giuliani is a good way to understand where Thompson and McCain are coming from. He's taking the same position Bush did in 2000: It's a states rights issue. But just watching Giuliani answer that question, you can tell that they feel like they have a gun to their heads, and don't want to say what they really think. For example, everyone knows where Giuliani stands on abortion, but he says the same thing: "states rights issue". Yeah right. He doesn't mean it.

Just look what Bush has done against the Confederate flag, as president. He removed a tiny Confederate memorial plaque from the Texas Supreme Court building in Austin in the dark of night. His Vice Emperor Cheney bribed the then-governor of South Carolina, Jim Hodges, to violate the dying wishes of South Carolina Congressmen Floyd Spence, and not play "Dixie" and have the Confederate flag at his funeral. Cheney refused to attend unless both demands were met, and they were. Previous presidents have all paid tribute and publically respected the South's cultural symbols.

If we didn't know any better -- and maybe we do -- it would appear that Bush and Cheney have a policy "Sharpton chides Cheney over Confederate flag flap" to never appear in the presence of a Confederate flag. When all of the frontrunners -- Romney aside, since he is even worse -- say word-for-word what Bush said when he was campaigning for president, what makes any of us think they would act any differently?

If you wonder what Bush really thinks about the South and the Confederate flag, just find the cover story from volume 25, number 1 of Partisan magazine. Bush's favorite book on the War Between the States is April 1865: The Month That Saved America, whose title pretty much says it all -- just plain stupid worship of the Union victory at Appomattox.

But it's worse. If you read the Southern Partisan article or any of countless articles on Taki's Top Drawer or LewRockwell.com, you'll see that all of Bush's advisors are big fans not only of Grant and Lincoln, but of Sherman and Sheridan!

The only one saying and believing what supporters of Southern heritage believe is Ron Paul.

It's been pointed out, especially in South Carolina, that the Southern Heritage Political Action Committee should unite behind "someone who can win". The name that used to come up was the hideous Taxachusetts fraud, Mitt Romney. Check out the Harper's Magazine article , if you want to know what kind of sham he is trying to pull on South Carolina.

The other name that comes up is Fred Thompson, but he has problems, too -- voted five out of five times in favor of little amnesty deals, lobbied for Planned Parenthood, and affects a fake made-for-TV Southern accent.

Huckabee, of course, is a huge Lincoln lover and is notorious for using the Yankee Pro-Lifer's favorite analogy about the War: the Dred Scott Case. The War was all about slavery, so it goes, and therefore we should all emulate Lincoln in order to save unborn babies. Interesting idea, but I think we all know where that goes when someone starts out using Lincoln as their model of Christian morality. In fact, Huckabee has said that America must give college scholarships to illegal immigrants as atonement for slavery

In general, he was a tax-and-spend governor of Arkansas than Clinton. And now he wants that for the whole country. His new fundraising motto is "Do it for the children". He goes on to explain that he's not just for children from the time of conception to the time of birth, but from the time of conception until they go to their graves. We're talking big government -- really, really big government.

Don't be surprised to see all of the other candidates attacking Huckabee soon, since his numbers have been rising lately. He's the media's new poster child, just like McCain was -- a sheep in a wolf's clothing.

Last week's CNN YouTube debate started out with 30 minutes of real debate. Everyone came out ugly and muddied up: Romney, Giuliani, McCain, Huckabee, and Thompson. All of them are marketing shams.

This is especially important for South Carolina, where our early little January 19 primary is the most critical of all, since it was set up as the establishment firewall. Whoever wins here becomes the nominee. Over the last 30 years, other traditionally early primaries -- Iowa, New Hampshire, Michigan, and Arizona -- have only been won half of the time by the candidate who went on to become the nominee. But South Carolina is the only real red state primary in the bunch (the new edition of Florida on January 29 especially doesn't count), and we matter most, with a perfect record of 100 percent.

The Moral Rights and Reasons to Secession in the 21st Century

On July 4th, 1776 there was a document that declared the united States
to be a free nation. The British Empire (The most free, and best
nation in the world) had been perverted into tyranny. It was the right
and duty of the colonists to through off that government and provide
new guards for their securities. The same thing has happened today,
the "best nation in the world" has been perverted into tyranny, and it
is time for Independence. There is much argument over the Constitutionality
of secession, but any reasonable man will agree that there is a moral right
to secession and independence. It is my prayer that all of those who read
this document will turn their thoughts and loyalties to God, and their
families, over a perverted national government and nation, and see the Moral
right and DUTY of independence.

1. Public prayer, even voluntary prayer, is denied in schools paid for
by us taxpayers. Our children our not allowed to pray publicly in
government owned buildings, God is not allowed to be mentioned in
textbooks, and our children are forced to learn the disdainful state
religion of "evolution".

2. Un-Constitutional federal income taxes cripple the family economy
forcing the father to work outside the home, and many times forcing
the mother to work.

3. Our scriptural command to protect our families is under attack with
various "gun-control" laws. To protect our families, we must register
our guns with the government, or face prosecution.

4. Our Scriptural Command to instruct our children in righteousness is
under attack with child raising laws, and the jobs as parents are
being taken over by organizations such as the DCF.

5. Any law the Federal Government wants to pass is forced on the
Sovereign States, thanks to the abominable 14th Amendment. This
violates our GOD-GIVEN right to self government.

6. You now rent your property, and freedom from the government, and
you are only a State-Appointed foster care-giver to your children. If
you don't pay the rent on your property (The numerous
Un-Constitutional forms of property tax) the government takes it away
from you, and auctions it off. If you don't pay the rent on your
freedom (The unconstitutional federal income tax) you get your freedom
taken away and you are sent to federal prison to think over your
"crime". If you don't raise your child in a way the government sees
fit, your job as foster care-giver is taken back by the state and
reassigned.

7. The Regime in Washington D.C. has, for 150 years, crippled our
national economy, become aggressive abroad and despotic at home, has
secured it's grip on the citizen with "police" agencies such as the
CIA, and FBI. It now has a force of hundreds of thousands of peacetime
soldiers at it's complete bidding, now able to be put into action
against anyone the federal government wishes, or able to be
transferred to the U.N. to do ITS bidding.

8. Now, in addition to renting your freedom and land from the
government, there is NO property rights left. The executive order in
this link gives the federal government the right to seize the property
of someone they believe to "Threaten the security and stabilization of
Iraq". Way to go Bush, you will take away American Citizen's freedoms,
but durn it, you will bring DEMOCRACY to Iraq!

9. The Biblical Principle that those who will not work, will not eat
is undermined by welfare and government food stamp programs, and all
of these are paid for by honest, hard working, middle class men.

10. The Responsibility of the Church and the Family to take care of
the elderly and widows is undermined by federal programs such as
Social Security and Medicare.

11. The Middle Class, those who keep America running, are slowly
disappearing, thanks to the meddling of the Government into virtually
every part of our lives, they either break it big, or are taxed into
the ground.

12. There is not part of your life that the government does not have
SOME part in. Think about it for a while, and you'll realize it is
true.

13. (This applies to all proud peoples, but I am hitting it from the
Southern View) Our proud and distinct entity as a Southern People is
under attack daily. We are being invaded from the South by Illegal
Immigrants, and from the North by meddling yankees. Our beautiful land
and culture is being homogenized with all other cultures and peoples
into a proposition nation, and an "American People". Our pride and
loyalty is going from Tallahassee, Birmingham, Jackson, Charleston etc
to Washington DC. Our loyalty for our people is being drawn to
abstract things such as the "global community, the environment, and
the nation", and above all this we are forced to support it through
our tax dollars in the form of "education" in the government schools.

14. The murder of un-born babies is condoned and protected under the
guise of "women's choice", and with this precedent virtually any
horrible practice or procedure can be allowed.

15. Our young ladies our turned into feminists and our young men into
sodomized "guys" by the government "schools" which we are forced to
pay for. Therefore we are forced to support immoral and ungodly
principles as long as we are under the current regime.

The current system is not feasibly able to be returned to a federated
Republic. Both parties are one and the same, statist perverts. The
federal government has absolute power, as did England in 1776, to stop
attempts to change it. We have petitioned this to be changed for 180
years, but nothing happened. It is now our right and DUTY to "abjure
the realm" and raise godly families that serve Him, not the
government. We must return to the land, and become a self-sustaining
people. After we separate ourselves as a distinct, God-Fearing nation
we will naturally "dissolve the political bands which have connected
them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the
separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's
God entitle them".

Read the words of the great Virginian, Thomas Jefferson in the
Declaration of Independence. We hold these truths to be self-evident,
that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator
with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty
and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights,
Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from
the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government
becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to
alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its
foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form,
as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and
Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long
established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and
accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed
to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by
abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long
train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object
evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their
right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide
new Guards for their future security.

I do not think the reasons I have listed are 'light or transient" at
all, they deal mostly with something far more important than a nation
with the name United States of America staying "United", they deal
with our Lord, and our families. It is time for us free men to declare
as a free people that we have No King But Jesus! While the Southern
people are a distinct people, we must confederate with other free
peoples who wish a federate Republic once more. It is time for
independence, and once that is achieved the federal empire that has
risen will crumble and fall, and we will be a free nation/nations
again. May God Bless a Righteous and Noble cause.

Closing Down Shop and Making New Plans

A big thank-you is in order to all good Southern Patriots who have stood by this campaign for the past ten months. We have taken the word about Southern Rights into a national venue for the first time since Appomattox. Although at this time it is apparent that we cannot find the support among our fellow Southerners to push beyond an Exploratory effort, we have sown seeds that will surely germinate in the future.

During the past ten months I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking to fellow Southerners who understand the need of pushing our message of Southern Rights into the political arena. From the beginning of this effort our objective was to use the political arena as a platform to promote the ideas that were first announced sixteen years ago in The South Was Right. For too long there has been a total absence of a pro-South message in the political arena. We had hoped to inspire enough of our fellow Southern Rights friends to be able to fund a respectable campaign in the G.O.P. primaries in Dixie. When one hears the current candidates blaspheme and otherwise condemn the South, it is obvious that a strong pro-Southern Rights candidate should be on hand to give the other side of the story. At this time it is apparent that we will not be able to raise the funds to be a credit to the Cause of the South so we are hereby announcing our withdrawal from the effort to mount a pro-South G.O.P. campaign this election.

Now, don’t think that the hundreds of fellow Southerners who donated and pledged their financial support and the thousands of Southerners who pledged their active support are just going to go away. There is much that needs to be done during this election season. Every major Republican candidate with the notable exception of one man has embraced the liberal anti-South concept of our Southland. These men must be exposed, challenged, and utterly shamed for the scalawag or carpetbagger that they have demonstrated themselves to be. Southerners, especially those of us who call ourselves Southern Nationalists, must not allow these men to trash our history and heritage. Likewise, we must not allow these men to assist in the complete destruction of our free society. With this in mind, I encourage everyone to please take the time to view our last video produced by the Kennedy Exploratory Committee, The System is Broken. We must work for the day when the message of this video is fully embraced by our people and our candidates. At that time we will surely be close to the day when yes indeed, “The South shall rise again.” Until that day, let us continue our struggle for Southern Rights and Southern Liberty.

SCV Recognizes Congressman Virgil Goode

Virginia legislator receives prestigious Stephen D. Lee Award

The Sons of Confederate Veterans recognized one of the South's great patriots, Virginia United States Representative Virgil H. Goode, Jr. of Virginia's 5th District, December 5 during a special ceremony at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn @ Key Bridge in Arlington. Rep. Goode was presented the General Stephen D. Lee Award which is the SCV's highest honor for a non-member. The presentation was made by SCV Commander-in-Chief Christopher M. Sullivan .

Rep. Goode had been conferred with this award at the SCV's 2007 General Reunion in Mobile, Alabama.

"Virgil Goode earned this honor by conducting himself in office as our forebears and Founding Fathers would want their elected representatives to behave," said Army of Northern Virginia Councilman Brag Bowling in introducing Rep. Goode. "Congressman Goode has lived up to a conservative, states' rights vision of how the United States government should be run. With Virgil Goode, you know that he will represent you with honor, courage, dignity and sincerity."

"It would be hard to forget when Virgil Goode stepped up to the plate during the Lincoln statue controversy in Richmond by questioning the actions of the National Park Service," Councilman Bowling continued. "For this, he was criticized in the press but Virgil was proven correct in the long run."

In making the official presentation, Commander-in-Chief Sullivan praised Rep. Goode's commitment to "the permanent things." "Congressman Goode understands the importance of principle over popularity," Sullivan said. "He shows, everyday, that one doesn't have to sacrifice his ideals in order to be a success in Washington."

The occasion for the award was hosted by the Jefferson Davis Camp #305.

Congressman Virgil Goode To Receive Stephen Dill Lee Award Wednesday

Elm Springs, Columbia, TN 3 December

Sons of Confederate Veterans Commander-in-Chief Christopher M. Sullivan will present the Stephen Dill Lee Award to Congressman Virgil Goode of Virginia at a ceremony sponsored by the Jefferson Davis Camp, #305, Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Congressman Goode (which rhymes with mood) represents the 5th District of Virginia in the U. S. Congress. This includes the Southside of Virginia to Charlottesville.

He served in the Virginia Senate beginning at the age of 27 as a Democrat. He later became an Independent, and ultimately in 2002, a Republican.

Congressman Goode is a member of the Liberty Caucus which meets each Thursday while in session and is hosted for lunch by Congressman Ron Paul.

He will speak at the Rosslyn banquet honoring him on his favorite subject, Robert E. Lee.

The event is the annual Christmas party for the camp and their guests. It will be held on Wednesday, December 5th at the Holiday Inn, Key Bridge, in Rosslyn, VA from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Tickets for the banquet and program are $27. All members and friends of the SCV and Congressman Goode are cordially invited to attend.

Romney Agitates Confederate Descendants

Elm Springs, Columbia TN Nov. 29

Sons of Confederate Veterans leader Christopher M. Sullivan issued the following statement in response to the CNN Republican debate Wednesday 28 November.

"Mitt Romney proposes himself to be president of the United States but last night he clearly demonstrated not only his ignorance of American history but also his contempt for Southerners who love and respect their Confederate ancestors.

"Gov. Romney went way over the line when he attacked Southerners for respecting the historical significance of the Confederate flag. Perhaps the citizens of his state of Massachusetts still hate Southerners, but Gov. Romney should not expect us to accept his outrageous attack on Southern heritage."

Responding to a question about the Confederate flag, Romney said, "That flag frankly, is divisive and shouldn't be shown. Right now with the kinds of issues we've got in this country, I'm not going to get involved with a flag like that."

"That's not a flag that I would recognize so that I would hold it up in my room."

"The people of our country have decided not to fly that flag. I think that's the right thing."

Sullivan went on to say, "We were not aware that the people of the country have had their First Amendment rights abridged as Mr. Romney seems to desire. Whether Gov. Romney likes it or not, Confederate flags are freely flown throughout the U.S. and in other countries as well."

"The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Inc. does not participate in partisan politics. We do speak out when anyone disparages the honorable service of Confederate soldiers and the symbols which identified them." Sullivan concluded.
